Master Chess

Master Chess is a free online chess game with the complete official rule set on a clear, readable board. Play against the computer on easy, medium or hard, or hand the device to a friend for a match on the same screen. Your score starts high and drops while you think, so quick, sharp play pays off twice.

How to Play Master Chess

  • Pick a mode: Choose a match against the computer or a two-player game on one device.
  • Set the difficulty: Easy, Medium and Hard set how many moves ahead the computer looks; Medium is the default.
  • Move a piece: Tap a piece to light up its legal squares, then tap your target square. You play White and move first.
  • Promote your pawn: When a pawn reaches the last rank, a panel asks which piece to promote it into.
  • Win the game: Deliver checkmate to win. CHECK! warns a king is under attack; a stalemate is a draw.

Features of Master Chess

  • Two game modes: One player against the computer, or two players taking turns on one device.
  • Three difficulty levels: Beginners and experts both get a fair opponent.
  • Complete chess rules: Castling, en passant, promotion, check, checkmate, stalemate and draws.
  • Clock and score per side: Both sides have their own clock on screen; in two-player mode each side also shows its own score.
  • Built for phones: In two-player mode on a phone the Black panel is flipped so players facing each other can both read it.
  • Comfort options: Full-screen, sound on/off, a confirmation before you leave and an instant rematch.
